Terms of service
The plain version: you see a working preview before you pay, you own what you’ve paid for, and you can stop a monthly plan after any month. The details are below. Questions go to admin@getspineandreel.com.
1. Who we are
Spine & Reel is run by Prylo. In these terms, “we” means Spine & Reel and Prylo, and “you” means the author or publisher who orders from us.
2. What you’re ordering
Each plan and video includes what its card on our home page lists on the day you order. Before any work starts, we confirm by email the package, the price, the book it’s for and the dates. That email is the scope of the work. Anything outside it is quoted separately, and we won’t start it without your yes.
3. Preview first, then payment
- Before you pay, we send a working preview: the storyboard and a first cut of one video. For the Book Launch, the Monthly Plan and the author website, it also includes a draft of the website’s home page.
- If you don’t want to go ahead after the preview, you owe nothing, and we delete your files (see the privacy policy).
- If you do, we send an invoice. Scene videos, book trailers, the Book Launch and the author website are paid in full before we make the rest. The Monthly Plan and the Lighter Monthly are paid monthly in advance.
- Prices are in US dollars. Payment is by card or bank transfer through our payment provider. We never see or store your card number.
4. Revisions
Every trailer and video comes with two rounds of revisions. A round is one list of changes sent together: different lines, a different cut, a different track, timing or text. Starting again from a new idea is new work, and we’ll quote it first. Websites and emails get the same two rounds before they go live. On the Monthly Plan, website changes are free for the first three months, however many you ask for.
5. Timing
Delivery dates, such as ten business days for a book trailer, start when we have the book, the cover and your answers from the call. If feedback or files arrive late, the dates move by the same amount. If we’re going to be late, we tell you as soon as we know, and before the date.
6. Monthly plans
- The Monthly Plan and the Lighter Monthly are billed monthly at the price shown. There is no minimum term.
- You can stop after any month. Tell us before the next billing date and nothing more is charged. There is no fee for leaving.
- Every video delivered up to then is yours.
- On the Monthly Plan, the full author website goes live within two weeks of the start. Through the first three months we make every change you ask for, free.
- That website stays ours for those three months and becomes yours after the third. If you stop sooner and want to keep the site, it’s $399. If you don’t, we take it down.
7. Ad spend and results
Ad spend isn’t part of any price. You pay Meta, TikTok or any other platform directly, from your own account, within a budget you set. We work hard to get your book found, but no one can honestly promise sales, rankings, reviews or mentions in AI answers, so we don’t.
8. Your book and your materials
You confirm that you hold the rights to the book, the cover, any photos and anything else you send us, or that you have permission to use them for marketing. We use your materials only to make your work. We keep the manuscript confidential and never share it.
9. Who owns what
- The email list and the accounts we set up for you are in your name from the start.
- Once it’s paid for, you own the finished videos and the website. On the Monthly Plan, the website becomes yours after the third month (see section 6). You can use the work anywhere, for as long as you like, to promote your book and your writing.
- The website’s domain and hosting accounts are in your name. When we set them up for you, we hand over the logins.
- We may show finished work in our portfolio and on social media, with a credit to you. If you’d rather we didn’t, tell us and we won’t. Founding authors get 30% off in return for letting us show their work on our site, credited to them. They can still keep any piece off it, and the discount stays.
10. Stock footage and music
Videos may use stock footage and music licensed for commercial use. Scene videos and illustrated videos use characters, shots and voices we make for your book with image, video and voice tools, from looks and voices you approve. They are part of the finished video and yours in the same way. Our licence covers the work we deliver to you, used to promote your book. It doesn’t let anyone take the footage or the music out of the video and use or sell it on its own. If a platform flags the music in one of our videos, tell us and we’ll clear the claim or swap the track, at no cost to you.
11. Ending the work
Either of us can end the work in writing. If we end it, we refund anything you paid for work we haven’t delivered. If you end it, payments for work already started aren’t refunded, but everything finished up to that day is yours.
12. Limits
If something goes wrong, the most we’re responsible for is what you paid us for the work in question. We aren’t responsible for lost sales, platform decisions such as an ad or an account being rejected, or problems with services we don’t run.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll update the date at the top. Work you’ve already ordered stays under the terms from the day you ordered it.
